KINGTON Ladies are through to the third round of the Mail On Sunday competition.

The event, claimed to be the leading golf club competition in the world, is now in its 15th year and every year seems to have a bigger entry. Last year more than 20,000 golfers in 2,965 teams took part.

Kington, with this latest win over Builth Wells by 4 games to 1, could be on the way to some exotic location if they reach the final - last year it was played in Barcelona.

In the eighth round of the Ladies accumulator, Kate Block scored 26 points in the 12-hole competition to lead the silver division, Jenny Kelly took second place with 25 points. The bronze division was won by Wendy Priday with an excellent 27 point score, Barbara Passey came second with 26 points.

q Ross have also moved through in the Mail on Sunday competition with success against Rolls of Monmouth. The team of Helen palmer, Wilma Macnamara, Alison Harvey, Ellie Peake and Dinah Johnston gained a 3-1 victory and are now waiting eagerly to find out who their next opponents will be.

In spring-like conditions, Maddy Patterson, Joan Punnett, Mary Palmer and Vicki Flowers' score of 83 points was enough for victory in a club am-am competition. The quartet of Jill Oates, Margaret Davies, Dinah Johnston and Audrey Nottage were second with 78 points.

q Hereford Municipal ladies vice-captain Jenny Wildman won the final winter season competition when she lifted the nine-hole Winter Eclectic. However, the margin was the smallest possible, putting holder Averil Magee into second place by half a point.

Result, 1 Jenny Wildman ( 31 ) Nett 31.5, 2 Averil Magee ( 26 ) nett 22.

q Maria Johnson won Sapey's three clubs and a putter competition with an impressive return of 40 points.

April Whetton, with 71 points, was the winner of the silver division in the club's LGU march medal, six points ahead of Tina Wooldridge.

Diana Leadbetter, 73 points, took the bronze division, also by a six-point margin, from Vivien Ellis.
