A GROUP of Hereford Rotarians joined others from around the country to celebrate the club's 110th birthday and raise the flag for its 'End Polio Now’ campaign.

Hereford Rotary Cub members, Rob Soutar, Rachel Carr, John Taylor and Julia Taylor, joined 150 others from clubs across the United Kingdom to climb the O2 dome in London and raise the ‘End Polio Now’ flag high above the capital’s skyline.

It was part of a fundraising drive for the global polio campaign for which Rotary GBI has raised £21 million to date.

Mr Soutar said: "The weather was fantastic and we had an amazing view of the London Skyline whilst raising money for great causes."

Since the launch of ‘End Polio Now’ in 1985 the amount of endemic countries has decreased from 125 to just three – Afghanistan, Pakistan and Nigeria.

In the past 12 months, Nigeria has also seen no recorded cases since July, sparking hope that it too will be declared Polio free in the near future.

Hereford City Rotary Club has 46 members aged 28 to 92.
