TEENAGERS around Herefordshire and the borders have been busy planning the next few years of their lives as the nervous wait for A-level results came to an end.

Students joined teachers in the celebrations last Thursday when envelopes were opened to announce the results.

Records were broken at some Herefordshire schools and colleges – with many students securing their first university choice.

Early indications showed that the overall pass rate in the county had increased to more than 99 per cent – which is above the national average.

The number of top grades were also on the up, while 95 per cent of students achieved two or more A-level passes.

The number of teenagers gaining three of more qualifications had also risen.

“This is a very positive picture for Herefordshire," said Councillor Jeremy Millar, cabinet member for young people and children’s wellbeing.

"My congratulations go to all of our young people who have worked so hard to achieve such outstanding success and to the quality of teaching which has contributed to their achievements.

"We are very proud of the county’s results.”
