A PAY and display system is to return to the Morrisons car park in Hereford tomorrow.

Shoppers were previously told to input their vehicle registration in order to pay for their parking.

“Six months ago, we upgraded our car park with the latest vehicle registration plate recognition," said store general manager Andy Colley.

"However, many of our customers have said they dislike this new technology.

"It has not worked well at our store on this particular occasion.

“We are grateful for our customers’ feedback and are sorry if this has caused any inconvenience."

Customers will still be able to park for free up to two hours', with parking tickets reimbursed in the store upon completion of their shop.

I used to pop into morrisons most days and buy a sandwich drink etc. i would only be in the store for 10 mins but i was told by the car park attendant one day that i still have to pay the £1 or risk getting a ticket. When i handed my receipt in at the end i was told because i had only spent £4.75 i couldnt get my £1 back . So i havent stepped foot in there since. I use to alternate my weekly shop between morrisons and sainsburys but now i just stick to sainsburys.

Numerous staff have re-iterated the point to me that you can park for 30 minutes for 'free' ... even with the new number plate reading system.

AS for the typing in of the number plate into the machine business then that is something I would never have contemplated doing as it just seems serious aggravation. Although I used to get a ticket when the old system was put a quid in, press a button and the ticket comes out.

I've never had anything through the post from the parking eye people and if I did it would go straight in the bin. It would be an unenforceable bill for something like £80 when the actual loss incurred by the shop would be a quid. A 'fine' totally disproportionate to the loss suffered by the store.

I managed the store from opening for 10 years, never had any issues just using the control barrier on busy days! Why are things so complex now?

It is right next door to the hospital with their extortionate charges! Plus it is very handy for town to avoid the Council fees!

I go over the road and park at Lidl. 2 hours free there. Plenty of time to walk into town and back,or just over the road to Morrisons.
