HEREFORD’S celebrity postman has helped bring local charity Hereford Haven to the attention of international chicken chain Nando's with his efforts at the London Marathon.
BBC Sport profiled Mike Chandler in its marathon coverage this year as he hit the £250,000 mark in fund-raising for the local cancer support charity.
And the segment was spotted by Matthew Wilson, general manager at Nando's, who are set to open a restaurant on the Old Market development later this month.
He said: “I saw Mike Chandler, "Postie Mike", running the London Marathon in aid of Hereford Haven and it sounded like just the sort of thing we should get behind.
“We at Nando's are very passionate about supporting our community and the great work done by Mike has inspired us to help support his chosen charity as well.”
Nando's have now chosen Hereford Haven as their charity of the year and Mr Wilson will also be running a raffle for a table for four and a bottle of wine to one of its pre-opening events to raise money.
