PUPILS celebrated by releasing balloons as Withington Primary School continued its journey back from Special Measures, having received a Good grade by Ofsted last week.

In just three years the school itself has kept on rising, going from Special Measures, to Satisfactory, to Good – with inspectors noting “increasingly Outstanding” teaching.

Now in a federation with Aylestone Business and Enterprise College, the Ofsted report praised the rapid improvements made to all aspects of the school by the leadership team.

It’s progress that has been noticed by parents, all of whom, the reports says, would recommend it.

“Pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development is excellent,” said Lead Inspector Ronald Hall.

But if the school is to continue is upward trend and receive an Outstanding grade next time round, the Mr Hall said improvements must be made in the handwriting and presentation skills of pupils and in pitching work set at the appropriate level.
