Couples reaffirm their wedding vows in an attempt to break a world record

THIRTY couples came together in a Herefordshire church to reaffirm their wedding vows in an attempt to break a world record.
The group met at St Mary's Parish Church in Fownhope to ensure their vows were reaffirmed simultaneously with around 1,000 other couples across the UK.
The "BIG Promise" event was run to coincide with national marriage week and to portray the importance of making a vow.
The Reverend Chris Moore, who conducted the service, said that he was heartened that so many people turned up.
Turnout was, he said, much higher than anticipated.
Wedding cake and champagne was handed out following the service as the concept of marriage was celebrated in style.
Dave Percival, national co-ordinator of the BIG Promise, said: “The simplicity and dignity of each BIG Promise ceremony held sends a clear message - the vows are the essential part of being married – not the fancy wedding, amazing reception, or exotic honeymoon.
"Marriage matters to every one of these couples, and should matter to all of us in society as the bedrock of stable family life.”
At the time of going to press, a team from the Guinness World Records was verifying the events to see if the current record of 1,087 couples set in Ohio, USA, in 2009, had been defeated.
