THE Royal Voluntary Service and Knighton Community Support are looking for more volunteers for their 'good neighbours' or befriending' service. At present there are at least 15 people in the Knighton, Presteigne and Llandrindod Wells areas waiting for volunteers to visit them.

The service provides regular visitors to vulnerable people in their own homes who for one reason or another can't go out on a regular basis.

Louise Croad the good neighbours service manager for the RVS said "We are looking for volunteers in Mid Wales who have an hour or two spare a week to go and visit people in their community. Many feel isolated in their own homes, some just need a little shopping or gardening done and others are lonely and need someone to chat to or take them out for a little while". The RVS also provide a meals on wheels service in Presteigne and are looking for more volunteer drivers. Louise added "All travelling expenses will be covered for volunteers and training will be provided".

On February 24 in the Tower House Gallery, Knighton from 10am - 11.30am there will be a coffee, tea and cakes morning, giving people the chance to find out more about volunteering in the community. This event has been organised by the Knighton and District Community Support Project and the RVS. Louise Croad and Annette Bithell project co-ordinator of the Knighton CSP and Catherine Plant who is a volunteer for the project will be there to talk to anyone interested or who wants more information. If you are unable to attend the event and would like to find out more about volunteering in your community please ring Louise on 01597 824931 or Annette on 01547 520653.
