A NEW community facility for training and meetings is set to open in Kington next month.

Following extensive building work to the Old Police Station in Kington, the new community facility has been provided at Marches Access Point (MAP).

The work has created an enlarged and improved training and meeting room, which will enable more training courses to be delivered for the local community and will also be the new meeting place for Kington Town Council.

“We are really delighted with the improved facilities,” said Emma Phillips, director of MAP.

“We have established a significant track record for our training courses and we will now be able to expand the range of things that we can offer. We have been very pleased to work in partnership with Kington Town Council and Herefordshire Council to enable this work to take place.”

The building work has been financed by Herefordshire Council, as part of its commitment to the transfer of a range of community buildings to the town.

As well as the improved training room, a smaller meeting room has also been provided.

“The transfer of a range of buildings, including the Old Police Station, to the ownership of the town means that we can ensure for the future that they remain for community use” said Bob Widdowson, mayor of Kington.

“This means we can ensure that MAP can build on the excellent work that it currently offers to the town, both in terms of its training courses and its support for community organisations and individuals. Our thanks go to Herefordshire Council for making this possible.”

The new room will be officially opened on February 7 by Bill Wiggin, MP for North Herefordshire.
