THE doors of a Hereford pub could be back open just weeks after a man was allegedly stabbed at the venue.

The licence for the Brewers Arms was suspended last Wednesday when a Herefordshire Council regulatory sub-committee heard that Niven Jones, manager of the Eign Road venue, sustained a stomach wound nearly three hours after the pub should have been shut.

Mr Jones, who is in his early 30s and had been manager of the pub for two years, was discharged from hospital later in the day and is recovering at home.

He has since left his position at the pub, while Sean Harrison has agreed to remove himself as designated premises supervisor (DPS).

Mr Harrison's brother Steve, who owns the pub, said at a second hearing on Monday that he would look for a replacement DPS immediately and that bar staff will have their own personal licence.

CCTV has also since been installed at the pub following the stabbing.

The committee agreed with these conditions, but added that they have to be adhered to before the pub could re-open.

The pub will also not be allowed to stay open past midnight on any day of the week.

Gipsy Outlaw Smith, a 56-year-old man from Nover Wood Drive, Fownhope, is currently in police custody after being charged with grievous bodily harm, actual bodily harm, two counts of possession of a knife, blade or sharp pointed article in a public place.

He was also charged with being in possession of a weapon for the discharge of a noxious liquid, gas or electrical incapacitation device.

He is next due to appear before Worcester Crown Court in February.

Dawn Louise Smith, a 42-year-old, also from Nover Wood Drive, Fownhope, has been charged with assisting an offender in an indictable offence, two charges of possession of a knife or sharp pointed article in a public place and driving above the legal alcohol limit.

She is on conditional bail and is due to appear before Worcester Crown Court on the same day.
