JOSH Widdicombe says that Hereford can expect an evening of fun and laughs when he co-headlines this year’s Court Laughing Festival at The Courtyard, writes Paul Rogers.

The 30-year-old comic will be taking to the stage at 8pm on Sunday, June 9 – the last night of the three-day showpiece.

“I have never been to Hereford before, but I have been to the Hay Festival,” said Josh.

“I never knew it existed before, but Hay was really nice and picturesque.

“One of the nicest things is going to places that you have never been to before, because it is always fresh.

“I have been touring since last August and it seems to be funny.

“There are no great themes or anything, just silly stand-up.”

Josh began performing live in 2008 and made it to the final of So You Think You’re Funny at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Two years later, he was named FHM Stand Up Hero 2010 and Leicester Mercury Comedian of the Year 2010.

He was also a Chortle best breakthrough act nominee in 2011, Loaded Lafta Awards best newcomer nominee in 2012 and has been nominated as best newcomer by the Foster’s Edinburgh Comedy Awards.

“I have really enjoyed stand-up,” said Josh.

“It started off as a hobby and it has now taken over my life.

“If someone had said that I would end up doing Live at the Apollo, I would say that they were mental.

“I never wanted to do a nine to five job and always wanted to do stand-up.”

Josh has also appeared on television panel shows, including 8 Out of 10 Cats and Mock the Week and is one of the regulars on The Last Leg, which proved a hit show during last year’s Paralympics coverage.

The Last Leg was the most fun that I have ever had in any job,” he said.

“It was really enjoyable and I have never been in such a happy workforce.

“It was just a positive show that wasn’t harsh and celebrated things.

“You learn a new skill when you do panel shows, but the key is to relax and enjoy it.

“My favourite TV show though is Pointless. It would be a dream if I ever appeared on it.”
