TEN teams of members from eight Young Farmers Clubs throughout Herefordshire took part in the annual Hereford Cattle Judging competitions recently, hosted for the second consecutive year at the superb venue at Ford Abbey Farm, Pudleston.

Competitors demonstrated their knowledge of the breed by placing in order of merit four pedigree Hereford heifers, cows and bulls and giving reasons to the judge in one of the rings.

But it was the young team from Kington YFC who impressed the judges the most, winning the Hereford Cattle Society Silver Challenge Cup with an impressive 553 total marks.

Second place overall went to Dilwyn YFC (who were also second last year) and Hereford YFC were a very close third overall, having come first in the last two years.

The prize for the highest individual marks went to Miss Fay Griffiths, a member of the successful Kington YFC team.

Fay, aged 14, scored 191 marks out of a possible 200 marks.

The event was sponsored by the Hereford Cattle Society and winners in each class took home a special memento - a china mug painted by the Hereford cattle artist from Dilwyn, Lucinda Lewis.
