THREE men who robbed a Herefordshire car show organiser of £31,000 are to be sentenced next month after the probation service failed to draw up pre-sentence reports.

Sirfaz Ahmed, Khalid Khan and Mohammed Khan were all due to be sentenced last Friday, but a delay by probation officers has seen the date put back.

Ahmed was convicted by a jury at Worcester Crown Court of robbing 60-year-old Neil Bateman.

Father-of-four Ahmed, aged 31, of Pershore Road, Cotteridge, Birmingham, has been remanded in custody.

Also in custody are Khalid Khan, 30, and his 27-year-old brother Mohammed, both of Nechells Park Road, Birmingham, who pleaded guilty to robbery before the trial in October.

Deputy circuit judge Michael Mott fixed sentence at Birmingham Crown Court for December 1.

He criticised the "appalling" delay by the West Midlands probation service in providing pre-sentence reports for the defendants.

Mr Bateman was followed home on April 4, 2004 after a 95-mile journey from the Ford enthusiasts show.
