THREE new exhibitions open at The Courtyard tomorrow (Friday).

In The Courtyard’s gallery, Knucklas-based artist Lois Hopwood uses drawing, painting, sculpture and film to develop ideas that are a direct response to the place in which she lives. The exhibition will also include two short films made with the children of Newcastle School about the life of children on farms.

“These beautiful films are a child’s eye view of the place to which they belong – wonderful,” said Michael Morpurgo, author of War Horse.

In The Courtyard’s canyon spaces, there is an exhibition of work by the Portfolio Group.

Patricia Little, Susan Morley, Suzanna Reynolds and Jacqueline Thomas met on the Portfolio Course at Hereford College of Arts in 2009 and while the four will show independent works, the exhibition will also portray the creative processes the artists discovered together on the course.

On the balcony wall, there is another opportunity to see winning entries from the Herefordshire Young Photographer of the Year 2012 Competition, now in its 12th year, which inspired more than 160 young people aged from nine to 19 to interpret the theme Looking Forward.

The competition was judged by pioneering photographer John Bulmer along with Hereford College of Arts principal Richard Heatly and Alex Thimm, BA (Hons) photography course leader.

All three exhibitions run until February 17.
