MOTORISTS are urged to take care on the roads as the temperature drops.

People should reduce their speeds when driving in icy conditions and ensure that windows, mirrors and lights are free from ice before setting off.

Police are also reminding people not to leave their keys in the car while they wait for the car to heat up in the mornings, as this makes the car an easy target for thieves.

Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service say the winter months are always busy with a high number of collisions on the roads.

Between April 1 2011 and March 31 2012 they attended 659 road traffic collisions, which accounted for around 8.4 per cent of the 7,857 incidents attended in total.
