A NEW exhibition at The Courtyard, The A49 Limes, an artist-led social engagement project, takes the Highways’ Agency’s proposed felling of up to 14 lime trees close to The Courtyard on Edgar Street in Hereford as a starting point.
The artist and curator Shân Edwards will work with groups and individuals with a stake in the issue, many of whom are The Courtyard’s close neighbours.
The project touches on issues of conservation, economics, shifts in the rural economy, the condition of shared public space, ideas of value within contemporary society and the narratives of protest and dissent.
The exhibition will be improvised using documentary and creative material provided by the groups and individuals involved. As it reflects a current and continuing event, the project and its content may change throughout the period of the exhibition.
The trees are very close to The Courtyard, allowing for immediacy and a direct connection to the principal subjects of the project, giving the exhibition’s audience the opportunity to examine something of the issues for themselves.
The A49 Limes runs until Sunday, October 20. For more information, contact the box office on 01432 340555
