AN exhibition of paintings and sketches by Neil Pinkett, titled The Wild Side of Britain, begins a national tour at The Great Atlantic Gallery in Monmouth's Church Street on Saturday.

The artist compiled this collection during 31 days of travel from north to south down the western side of Britain earlier in the year.

The gallery is open Tuesday to Saturday, from 10.30am to 4.30pm and the show continues through to November 29. For details, call 01600 714527.

Also showing in Monmouth is an exhibition of work by Eric Gill (1882-1940).

One of the most colourful figures in early 20th century art, the sculptor, typographer and writer, who spent part of his life in the Black Mountains, is world-renowned for his typesetting legacy.

The collection for sale is of his original etchings and wood engravings from 1928-34. The Tack Room Gallery is open Tuesday to Saturday, from 10.30am to 5pm. For details, call 07779 680114.
