THE autumn season at Ledbury's Market Theatre opens with the inaugural presentation of the venue’s Showcase event featuring new or as yet unseen theatrical talents.

This first event is going to be a genuine ‘red carpet’ affair as the theatre will present the world premiere of ‘Watchers’ – a new play by LADS member and Hereford writer David Pollard.

Watchers is a tale of intrigue and deception set in our surveillance society. Three people sit in an empty apartment keeping watch on their target hoping for some sign of illegal activity or intent. They record his every action and telephone conversation without obtaining the evidence required by their masters. Tensions mount and frustrations build as they are pressed to deliver a result by direct intervention.

"The play was first conceived during the Leveson Inquiry into press phone hacking. I’m half appalled and half delighted, that recent reports in the media show the events depicted in Watchers are still relevant," says David.

Watchers can be seen at The Market Theatre on Thursday and Friday, September 3 and 4 at 8pm.
