WYE Theatre Company present their latest production, Proof by David Auburn, at The Powell Theatre next week.
Catherine is the daughter of Robert, a professor of mathematics who has recently died. Catherine had cared for her father through a lengthy mental illness, and after his death, a former student discovers a proof about prime numbers in Robert’s office. But can Catherine prove the proof’s authorship? Throughout, the play explores Catherine’s fear of following in her father’s footsteps, both mathematically and mentally and her desperate attempts to stay in control.
In 2005, the play was adapted into a film starring Anthony Hopkins, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jake Gyllenhaal and Hope Davis, directed by John Madden.
Proof will be at The Powell Theatre from Thursday, May 28 to Saturday, May 30. Tickets are available from The Outback, Church Street, Hereford (01432 275063).
