GOODRICH Castle is the venue for two evenings of traditional Yuletide entertainment with Carols in the Chapel tonight and tomorrow.
The two concerts welcome Herefordshire’s home-grown choir, The Roaring Megs, to the castle’s beautiful medieval chapel, which will be decked for the season with traditional greenery. Now in its third year, the annual concert has become such a firm favourite of the Christmas calendar that a second date has been added to the run.
The Roaring Megs are a choir of more than 40 singers from the county, and take their name from ‘Roaring Meg’, the mortar which ultimately ruined Goodrich in the Civil War – and can still be seen in the castle grounds today.
This year’s programme celebrates peace and joy at Christmas time. Songs from across the world will be performed alongside traditional English carols, and the audience will be invited to join the choir in song for some festive favourites.
