JEAN-Louis Cortès, alias Macadam Piano, will be bringing his extraordinary motorised dancing piano all the way from the Loire valley to Hereford next week.

The grand piano will wend its way through High Town and Old Market during the day amusing and enchanting passers-by before the grand evening performance on the Left Bank river terrace at 7.30 pm.

Jean-Louis was a professional studio-based musician for many years but was inspired to change direction after reading ‘Novecento’ by Alessandro Baricco in which a boy becomes a piano virtuoso on board a ship without ever setting a foot on land. ‘I find this story magnificent and wanted to re-create the sensation of being able to move around at the same time as creating music’. Jean-Louis worked with Erwan Bellan from the theatre company Royale Deluxe creators of the Giant Spectacular which visited Liverpool last summer. Their intriguing invention, a grand piano which, with the aid of a motor and pedals, can glide through the streets has visited cities and towns all over the world, from China to the United States.

Jean-Louis, will be accompanied by violinist and clown Jeanne, to play music ranging from Ragtime and Fats Waller to Debussy and Daft Punk.

Border favourites, Little Rumba will also perform, delivering a blend of quirky lyrics and foot tapping songs.

Macadam Piano plus Little Rumba will be at The Left Bank on Wednesday, July 8 at 7.30pm. Tickets from Outback Records and fullcirclefestival.co.uk
