BRYN Terfel leads the cast in Wagner’s Der Fliegender Holländer, which will be screened live from the Royal Opera House to The Courtyard on Tuesday, February 24.

The opera tells of the intense and dangerous attraction between the Dutchman, a man doomed to sail the seas for eternity, and Senta, sung by Canadian soprano Adrianne Pieczonka, the woman whose faithful love could redeem him.

The stark setting of the isolated Baltic community and dark themes of the opera are captured by Michael Levine's atmospheric set designs, including a huge rolling metal hull that looms over the characters representing the oppressive phantom ship.

Conductor Andris Nelsons, acclaimed for his Wagner interpretations, returns to the Royal Opera House to steer the orchestra through the composer's score, depicting the violence of the sea and the turbulence of the characters’ emotions, always gripping the imagination of audiences.

Der Fliegender Holländer will be screened at The Courtyard on Tuesday, February 24 at 7.15pm. To book, call the box office on 01432 340555 or visit courtyard.org.uk
