FROM Buckingham Palace to the Burton Hotel, a francophone gypsy jazz guitarist is bringing his exciting trio to Kington this month.

Twenty-six-year-old Remi Harris, from Hereford, has featured on BBC Radio 2 and received international recognition for his unique sound and style of guitar-playing.

He was born to play music.

His parents, both artists, named him after the second and third notes of the major scale – as in “Do RE MI Fa So La Ti Do”.

Aged seven, Remi scraped together enough money to buy his first guitar and began figuring out how to use it, later picking on the Beatles and Hendrix records from his dad’s vinyl collection.

Since then he has developed his own sound, learning Gypsy Jazz from Youtube clips before adding blues, rock and world music influences to put his own stamp on it.

Gaining popularity in the 1930s, Gypsy Jazz originated in France – the home country of Remi’s mother, a cartoonist.

The Remi Harris Trio’s modern take on the genre will bring something new to Kington’s Burton Hotel when they play as part of the Kington Walking Festival.

The Trio will form the main attraction on September 20, with tickets costing £10.
