HITTING her ‘quarter century’ this month, one Wyevale worker joined a growing group of green-fingered employees whose roots run deep at the Hereford nurseries.

Sheila Jackson, 63, has been at Wyevale for 25 years and is the 22nd employee to hit the milestone.

One of the largest family-run nurseries in the UK, Wyevale has been furnishing Hereford’s gardens since 1928 when horticulturalist Harry Williamson set it up, later passing it on to his son Peter.

The staff have a staggering 695 years’ experience between them, and Sheila still has some catching up to match Roy Rogers, 61, who has been with the company for 42 years.

Adam Dunnett, Sales and Marketing Director at Wyevale Nurseries, explained: “We would like to congratulate Sheila on reaching 25 years’ of service.

“She is an integral part of our team and we would like to thank her for her commitment to the company.

“We look forward to many more years ahead.”

Mr Rogers, from Peterstow, the company’s longest-serving employee joined following a brain surgery and worked throughout the many departments at the nurseries during his time with Wyevale.

He said: “We have a great team spirit.

“I have seen the nursery grow and expand from very small beginnings into the business it is today.

“I feel a great sense of pride in the part I have played towards this.”

Following Peter Williamson’s death three years ago, the company was passed on to the third generation, Heather and Simeon Williamson who now run the nurseries.
