Drivers in south Hereford are facing long queues as they make their way towards the city centre.
A lane closure on Victoria Street saw vehicles back up on Ross Road, Holme Lacy Road and Belmont Road.
Traffic even stretched as far back as the Clehonger turn on the A465.
The Highways Agency is planning to improve the road surface between the junctions of Barton Road and Edgar Street - and their work will begin tonight.
However, today's lane closure is believed to have been caused by gas works on Edgar Street.
