A HEREFORD family saw all their belongings burnt to a crisp after a devastating fire.

Marilyn Hemmings and husband Mark had their three-bed semi in Haydn Terrace, Merthyr Tydfil, go up in flames on Friday, October 21.

Their 17-year-old daughter Olivia and two sons were also living at the home.

The couple were downstairs when the youngest came down to say there was a fire and the whole of the upstairs was ablaze, said their other daughter 31-year-old Jo Stanley.

The family, originally from Hereford, have been told the house is unstable to re-enter and the entire upstairs and landing has burned to ashes, she said.

Everything else is smoke damaged and not retrievable.

This has left them without clothing, furniture, and amenities.

With it being winter and so close to Christmas, the family asked for help.

"We are so grateful that everyone got out safe, but the trauma and uncertainty this has brought means we are reaching out for any support there is," she said.

Ms Stanley said the community have rallied around and helped her mum and stepdad "see some light at the end of this dark tunnel."

"We can't thank them enough," she said.

The goal of £2000 was exceeded and £2135 was raised for the family to begin replacing their belongings.
