MEMBERS of the public will be offered the chance to buy shares in the Ledbury Community Solar Project, which aims to put panels on the roof of the Ledbury Community Hospital, off Market Street.

The group needs to find £120,000 for a 87kW solar array, and people can invest in the 20 year project

from as little as £100, up to a maximum of £20,000.

The launch event will take place in the Courtyard Suite at The Feathers’ Hotel in Ledbury at 7pm on Thursday February 5.

A drop-in session for anyone interested to find out more about the project will also be run at the Burgage Hall on Saturday February 7 from noon to 3pm.

Directors of the local Cooperative, and representatives from Shaw Healthcare, will be present to answer questions.

The solar array should provide cheap electricity to power the town’s main healthcare facility and investors are predicted to achieve in excess of a five per cent return on their investment over two decades.

Paul Kinnaird, one of the Directors of the Cooperative said “We’re all excited that this project is finally ready for launch. The whole team is committed to providing local people with the opportunity to invest in renewable energy – even if they can’t fit this technology on their own homes.”

Another Director, Viv Arscott, said “Providing cheap electricity for our Community Hospital, shrinking our town’s carbon footprint and offering an attractive investment opportunity to local people is good news all round."
