THE last few days before Christmas can be stressful for many, with endless amount of wrapping to do and ensuring all the food and drink is stocked. 

Therefore, a drink in the local pub where you can meet up with friends can be a great way to unwind. 

Below are some of the pubs you said people should go to for a Christmas Day drink.

Golden Lion, Grandstand Road, Hereford

This boozer was run by Paula Watson for years, and was renowned for having an aviary at the back.

The cockatiel was even believed to have been the star of Saturday night TV alongside Timmy Mallett, before Paula discounted the rumour.

The pub is now run by Cliff Roberts, who took on the watering hole in September.

"I've been drinking here for 23 years," said Mr Roberts.

"I met the locals and got on well with them so I stayed coming.

The Taphouse, Ross-on-Wye

This micropub, which has a five-star rating on Tripadvisor, opened in Millpond Street five years ago after an empty shop was converted. 

The site was previously a licensed premises, known as the Tap House, and formed part of the Alton Court Brewery which closed in 1956.

"We welcome all into our little pub, and like to treat them as friends that we haven't met yet," said co-owner, Nigel Ree.

"It is a warm welcoming place with always someone to chat too.

If you come in alone you will soon get involved with the conversation.

"Large pubs cannot offer the same kind of welcome, we are small enough to welcome all personally."

IPL Sports Bar, Leominster

Hereford Times:

This is an independent sports bar situated in the town's West Street.

"It's a safe atmosphere where we try not to have any trouble," said spokesperson Gareth Pattison.

"We know 80 per cent of our customers very well, but everyone is welcome. 

"It's a really nice environment."

The Vaga Tavern, Hereford

Hereford Times:

This is the only pub in the southside of Hereford, and is very popular among locals. 

Annmarie McKie said: "It is a very friendly orientated pub, especially on Christmas Day.

"Becky Clyde is the best landlady and has an amazing group of bar staff behind her."

Lichfield Vaults, Hereford

Situated in beautiful Church Street in the heart of Hereford, the Lichfield Vaults is a traditional pub that serves regular guest ales as well as a wide variety of food. 

Landlord Andy Loizou has just celebrated 15 years serving people at the historic watering hole, saying that his time there 'has been one of the most special periods of his life'

The Monument, Hereford

Hereford Times:

Based at the top of Whitecross Road by the roundabout, the Monument is a family pub that also has a pool table and TV screens showing sport. 

It has a four-star rating on Tripadvisor out of 194 reviews. 

The Oxford Arms

Another Hereford pub that was praised by Hereford Times readers was the Oxford Arms.

Based in Widemarsh Street, the boozer has certainly got into the festive spirit. It started serving festive dippers in November, while last Saturday (December 16), it held a children's Christmas party.

Last year, it was voted the second best pub in the county by Hereford Times readers.
