I BELIEVE that XL bully dogs were originally bred from pit bull terriers, a banned breed in England since 1991.

As the one who was attacked by an XL bully on a recent Monday evening just after stepping out of my front door and crossing the road on Waggoners Way, I am particularly concerned that unless this dog is found, someone else could be attacked and the consequences could be much worse (Victim tells of dog mauling, November 23).

Had the dog been running off its lead just 10 minutes earlier, there was a neighbour with her three very young children on the pavement, having just got out of their car.

The rehoming of two XL bullies – made to look so cute and appealing in their photos – managed to make the front page and page two of the November 23 edition of the Hereford Times.

The report of my attack, which apart from the news value, should have been an urgent warning to all of what can happen outside your front door, was on page 12.

I see now why our country is called a nation of dog lovers.

The safety of people, especially children, obviously comes second.
