A HEREFORDSHIRE fish and chip shop is on the shortlist for an acclaimed award.

The Fiddler’s Elbow in Leintwardine is in the top 10 list to win the National Fish and Chip Awards ‘field to frier’ category for their excellence with their knowledge of potatoes and the care and chip preparation required to deliver high-quality standards.

The shop, in Rosemary Lane, is run by Dominic Eusden and his partner Linzi Morris.

They said: “For a small village chippy this is a tremendous achievement, which goes to show that size and location doesn't matter.

“Fingers crossed that we progress into the next stage and beyond to bring it back to Leintwardine.”

Andrew Crook, president of the National Federation of Fish Friers, organiser of the awards, said: “We can all relate to the joyous moment of taking that first bite of a chip fresh from the frier.

“The amount of skill it takes to get the perfect balance of textures, uniform colour and moreish flavour shouldn’t be underestimated. The Field to Frier award is a fantastic opportunity for us to congratulate businesses for being at the top of their game.

The Fiddler’s Elbow was also in the top 40 shortlist for the ‘fish and chip takeaway of the year’ category, in which it came third last year.

Last December, it won a 2023 Good Food Winner accolade in the fish and chip shop category, while it has been acknowledged as one of the UK's best takeaways by Fry Magazine for five successive years.
