SHELVES are starting to empty at a Hereford petrol station as it gets ready for a big change.

The Co-op site in Holmer Road is due to close on November 8, with Asda then taking it over.

Last year,  the company agreed to sell 129 of its petrol stations, as well as three development sites, to Asda in a £600 million deal that would help bolster its finances.

This included the Holmer Road site, meaning that Asda would have two petrol stations in the city, with the firm also operating one by its supermarket off Belmont Road.

Earlier this month, an Asda spokesperson confirmed that the Hereford store is part of the acquisition, but was unable to give an exact opening date.

However, we understand it will be at 10am on November 10.

The petrol station was initially a Texaco, with the Co-op running the shop.

However, a £1.7 million refurbishment in 2020 saw the shop become bigger and the Co-op replacing the Texaco branding in the forecourt.
