A MAN has called for action from the council after fly-tipped waste was left outside his house on the Herefordshire border for nearly two years.

Ian Ross, who lives in Knighton, has struggled to get a large pile of rubbish that was dumped opposite his house two years ago removed, and claims that Powys County Council has repeatedly “fobbed him off”.

Mr Ross moved into his property with his wife in 2011 and said that fly tipping has been a persistent issue.

“We are situated on a quiet lane it has also become a hotspot for fly tipping,” said Mr Ross.

OTHER NEWS:

“This has been a regular occurrence since the day that we moved in and had been for many years prior I believe.

“Fridge freezers, mattresses, wheels and tyres, household waste, you name it and at some point, it’s been here.”

Before 2020 Mr Ross said the rubbish was cleared very quickly and that he had a good relationship with the council’s highways department.

However since then he has increasingly found that rubbish is being left in the area.

“The latest batch of tipping has now been in situ for over two years,” said Mr Ross.

“With the recent winds it has been all across the road. I have spoken to my local county councillors they have put in requests as well.

“I have lost count of the calls that I have made to Powys County Council only to be fobbed off by saying they will get someone out to look at it, and it’s still there.”

OTHER NEWS:

A spokesperson for Powys County Council said the issues was related to a nearby scrap yard: “We have been made aware of ongoing fly-tipping issues at a property in Knighton.

“It would appear that the items have been dumped by people hoping a property owner will take them into their scrap yard. The council’s Waste Awareness Team and Environmental Protection Team will be working with the property owner to try and resolve the problem as soon as possible.

“Residents are urged to take unwanted items to their local Household Waste Recycling Centre where they can be recycled correctly, and not dump rubbish on the side of the road.

“The council will take action against anyone caught fly-tipping, which could include a Fixed Penalty Notice or prosecution.”
