Dyfed Powys Police is investigating after a motorcyclist died following a crash with a pickup truck that closed a major road in Mid Wales.

On Tuesday, April 4, a grey BMW motorcycle collided with a white Toyota Hilux on the A44 near Nantmel, between Crossgates and Rhayader, with both vehicles travelling in the direction of Rhayader.

The motorcycle was carrying two people, a rider and passenger on the road west of Kington.

A Welsh Ambulance Service spokesperson confirmed that they dispatched a rapid response vehicle and an emergency ambulance, as well as support from the Air Ambulance.

Police have today confirmed that the male motorcyclist died at the scene.

The pillion passenger sustained serious injuries and was conveyed by air ambulance to the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff for further treatment.

Dyfed Powys Police closed the road in both directions for hours following the crash, instructing motorists to avoid the area and find an alternative route.

Anyone who witnessed the collision, or anyone with information that could help officers with their investigation is asked to report it to Dyfed-Powys Police, either online at: bit.ly/DPPContactOnline, by emailing 101@dyfed-powys.police.uk, or by calling 101.
