PICTURES of the river Wye in Hereford show it continues to remain low even after recent rainfall.

The heatwave brought the river down to 0.008m, a long way below the average level for the river at this location.

Today (August 19) the river level was recorded as 0.19m and rising at 8.45am.

But riverbeds that are usually covered by the water are now allowing people to walk into the middle of the river by the Old Bridge.

Fisherman have taken the opportunity to use it as a new temporary spot.

While the spot next to the rowing club remain deep enough to allow canoes to pass through.

Further up the river under Victoria Bridge people are paddling out across to the other side from the beach which is usually on display this time of year.

The usual range of the river is between 0.10m and 3.30m, which has been between for 90 per cent of the time since monitoring began, according to the government website.

The typical recent level of the river at this point over the past 12 months has been between 0.02m and 4.21m. It has been between these levels for at least 150 days in the past year.

The highest level ever recorded was 6.11m, reached on February 17, 2020, during the floods.
