SECONDARY school in Herefordshire has been given the go-ahead to build a new £2.3 million science block by planners.
John Kyrle High School in Ross-on-Wye can now build the three-storey block, which it said was needed due to rising student numbers, in part due to new housing developments in the south Herefordshire town.
The project, funded by Herefordshire Council, was the latest stage in a long process, the school said.

Since £2.3 million funding was agreed, the school undertook a building capacity exercise and identified the need for improved science facilities.
Work will begin on the new building this summer, with an expectation for it to be finished in early spring 2022.

Headteacher Nigel Griffiths said: "As we emerge from the pandemic, the timing of the new building couldn’t be better.
"This, and the record number of pupils applying to join the school in September, is further indication of our success and our long-term ambitions."
The plans said the block would be built on an area currently housing a disused long jump with grassed area which is generally undulating in nature so is not currently a usable play area.
