Crackdown on Crime: Hereford man caught with machete found guilty.

A Hereford man was found in possession of a machete on December 14th, 2024.
He admitted to the offence in January and his sentencing took place on February 20th
Knife crime is a significant issue in the UK; there are 50,000 knife crime instances a year, as of 2024.
Data provided by the Home Office indicates the severity of knife crime is consistently increasing each year, with a 4% increase from 2023.
The Labour government has set out on a journey to ‘halve knife crime in 10 years’, as outlined by the Home Secretary, Yvette Cooper, in September.
The Sentencing Council, who handle all sentencing guidelines in the UK, have suggested a minimum term of 6 months for those found in possession of a sharp or bladed pointed article in a public place.
The sentencing Council also states the minimum term should only be applied in cases where there are no exceptional circumstances in which the minimum term would be deemed unjust.
