HEREFORD manager Josh Gowling says that the club's midfielder Maziar Kouhyar has attracted the attention of Football League scouts.

The 24-year-old Afghanistan international was at Walsall in League One before being out the game for 18 months due to an ACL injury.

After signing for the Bulls last March the 24-year-old has hit his stride recently scoring twice against Guiseley and once against Chester.

In a column for The Guardian, HERE, Gowling said:

"I am very proud of him: he was the first Afghanistan-born player to appear in professional football in this country, but fell out of the game after leaving Walsall.

"He worked at KFC for a while and was employed as a car salesman when I first met him early last year.

"We took him on trial and I remember him joining us at Warwick University for his first training session. You can tell, as a manager, when a player has got it.

"Mazhiar moved differently, he is an international too and his running patterns were a class above.

"You could tell he had played at a high level and a couple of months later he was walking out at Wembley for us in the FA Trophy final.

"He was our man of the match in three straight wins and has been named in the league’s team of the week on three consecutive occasions.

"He is being scouted by league clubs again and, at 24, his career is on the way back up.

"There is no ceiling to his ability. The credit should go to him: he has worked hard and showed incredible mental strength and perseverance to give things another go, having initially been in a bad place when he dropped out of football."
