A HEREFORD venue has made an exciting announcement as a long-running campaign sees its labours come to fruition.
Halo Leisure has revealed that, after an extensive community campaign, the 400-metre athletics track at Hereford Leisure Centre on Holmer Road has been fully refurbished and has now reopened.
Laid in 1988, the track is regularly used by competitive athletes from local running and triathlon clubs as well as by recreational users, but its deteriorating state put its licence to host competitions at risk, prompting locals from across the county to form the fundraising group ‘Save Hereford’s Athletics Track’.
Last December, Herefordshire Council put a £70,000 public health grant towards the restoration of the track alongside funds already raised as part of its physical activity strategy for the county, with works taking place over the last four months to revamp the track.
Members can visit Hereford Leisure Centre in person or call 01432 278178 to book a space on the track. It is also open to non-members for £3.50 a session.
A spokesperson for Save Hereford's Athletics Track said: “It is open.
