FIRE crews were called to a fire in a garage at a Herefordshire home, as it was "well alight" in the blaze.

The incident was in a detached garage in Ross-on-Wye, and happened at around 9pm on May 17.

A spokesperson for Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service (HWFRS) said: "HWFRS was called at 9.11pm on May 17 to Swallow Road, Ross-on-Wye.

"A detached garage was well alight and two hose reels were used to extinguish this. Crews removed debris and dampened down. 

"The incident was marked as pending closure at 11.25pm."

Over the weekend, a fire crew was also called to rush to a flat in Friars Street, Hereford, as a smoke detector was sounding at around 3pm on May 19.

It was caused by items left on a hob, but the fire was out before the crew arrived.

Natural ventilation was carried out and there were no casualties in this incident.
