A NEW toilet with specialist equipment has been unveiled at a Hereford shopping centre.

The accessible loo, which comes complete with a hoist, curtains, adult-sized changing benches and space for carers - is in Maylord Orchards.

It is in addition to the public toilets that have been brought back into use with a new, modern look.

Funding came from Herefordshire Council as well as grant funding from the Department for Levelling up Housing and Communities, working with Muscular Dystrophy UK.

Councillor Carole Gandy, Cabinet member for adults, health and wellbeing, said: “I’m delighted we’ve opened this changing places toilet in Maylord Orchards, providing much needed facilities for visitors to Hereford.

“People who need changing places toilets will now be able to visit our city with confidence that they will have the facilities to enable them to be out and about without restrictions.”

There are more than 2,350 changing places toilets registered across the UK, with the Hereford one enabling users to enjoy everything the city has to offer, with adjacent parking facilities.
