A WEATHER warning is in force for Herefordshire with heavy rain set to hit the county.

The Met Office yellow warning for thunderstorms is set to come into force from 8pm tonight and will remain in force until 8am tomorrow (May 2).

Forecasters said spells of heavy rain are expected this evening and overnight, with a chance of thunderstorms and frequent lightening.

Some 20 to 40 millimetres of rain is expected to fall quite widely, the Met Office said, with 50 millimetres possible in some places, with much falling in just two or three hours in places.

The Met Office said the weather could lead to travel disruption and some flooding.

Weather forecast

We will see a cloudy start on Thursday, with any light rain soon easing, Met Office forecasters said. Skies will turn brighter from the north and east during the afternoon, and conditions will feel warm in the sunshine.

Friday will be largely cloudy with outbreaks of rain, and conditions will remain unsettled into the weekend, with showers or longer spells of rain.
