A HEREFORDSHIRE driver has been banned from the roads after failing to provide a breath sample.

Matthew Griffiths admitted failing to provide a sample to police when he appeared before magistrates in Welshpool this month.

He had been asked to provide an evidential sample of breath for analysis at Newtown Police Station on October 7 last year, but failed to do so, prosecutor Rebecca Kuipers said.

Griffiths originally pleaded not guilty but changed his plea to guilty on the day of his trial, March 11.

The 37-year-old was represented at the hearing by Qamar Rasib of the National Motoring Lawyers.

Griffiths, of Horseway Head in Staunton-on-Arrow, was disqualified from driving for 18 months and fined £872.

Magistrates said he had been given credit for his guilty plea on the day of the trial, and that they had decided to deal with the case by way of a fine “due to the defendant’s good character and the facts of the case”.
