A DRINK-DRIVER has been banned from the roads after he was caught out on a busy main Hereford road.

Alan Knowles entered guilty pleas to one count of driving while over the alcohol limit and one count of using a motor vehicle on a road or public place without third-party insurance when he appeared before magistrates this month.

The court heard that the 63-year-old had been caught out after getting behind the wheel of a Alfa Romeo in Hereford's Belmont Road while over the drink-driving limit on February 17, 2023.

An evidential breath test revealed that he had 55 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The limit is 35.

He was also found to have been driving the car without a valid insurance policy in place, magistrates in Hereford were told.

Knowles, of Cockleton Lane in Cowes on the Isle of Wight, was fined £262 for each offence and disqualified from driving for 12 months.

Magistrates said they had taken his guilty plea into account.

He was also ordered to pay prosecution costs of £135 and a £105 victim surcharge.
