A DRUNK man was abusive towards a police officer in a Herefordshire town, a court heard.

Jimmy Wilson, aged 62, of Linton near Bromyard, appeared at Hereford Magistrates' Court on October 26 charged with drunk and disorderly behaviour and using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour to cause harassment, alarm or distress towards a police officer.

The prosecution said that he had committed the offences in Bromyard on July 29 last year.

Wilson pleaded not guilty to the charges.

However, he was found guilty on February 6.

Magistrates fined him £180 for abusing the officer, and £60 for drunk and disorderly behaviour. Wilson was also ordered to pay prosecution costs of £135 and a surcharge of £96.
