AN ATTACKER who stole from a Herefordshire shop has been sentenced after he was found guilty by magistrates.

David Moore appeared before magistrates in Hereford for sentencing in December after he was found guilty of one count of theft from a shop, one count of using threatening, abusive, or insulting words or behaviour with intent to cause fear of or provoke unlawful violence, and one count of common assault at an earlier hearing.

He had previously entered not guilty pleas to all three charges.

The court heard that the 47-year-old had stolen three pairs of trainers from The Original Factory Shop in Ross-on-Wye on May 31.

He had also used threatening, abusive, or insulting words or behaviour towards another man with intent to cause them to believe that immediate unlawful violence would be used against them or to provoke them to use violence, and assaulted a woman in Ross on the same date.

Moore, of River View, Ross, was handed an 18-month community order and must take part in a six-month drug rehabilitation programme, fined £50, and must pay compensation of £50 to each victim.

The court heard that he was subject to a conditional discharge order, imposed by magistrates in Hereford in November 2022 for shop thefts, but chose to take no action on the breach of this.
