A VANDAL who caused thousands of pounds worth of damage to businesses in a Herefordshire town has been up before the magistrates.

Sean James entered a guilty plea to seven counts of causing criminal damage when he appeared before magistrates in Hereford in December.

The court heard from prosecutor Mark Hambling that the 33-year-old had recklessly or intentionally caused £1,500 worth of damage to Priory Cleaners, damage worth £1,500 to Forest Optical, damage worth £99 to a Toyota Yaris, and damage worth £75 to an Audi A3, damage worth £400 to the Seven Stars pub, and damaged a Honda Civic, all in Ledbury, on September 8.

He had also damaged Ledbury Books and Maps between September 7 and 8, the court was told.

James, of Barnett Avenue, Ledbury, was handed a 12-month community order with 40 hours of unpaid work for the offences.

He was also ordered to pay prosecution costs of £185 and a £114 victim surcharge.
