THOUSANDS of people lined the streets of Hereford last night (December 20) to watch this year's Christmas Tractor Run.

The event - organised by When Farmers Do Christmas - saw 172 illuminated tractors and other vehicles travel through the city.

The busiest places along the route were in Widemarsh Street and High Town, with many more people lining other streets such as Westfaling Street and Roman Road.

There was also a good atmosphere at the Livestock Market, which welcomed the vehicles at the end of the journey, with the café open for refreshments.

The 16-mile route started at Bartestree Village Hall at around 4.15pm before the convoy made its journey through Withington and Lugwardine before coming into Hereford.

In total, the journey took around three hours.

The organisers said they were overjoyed with how it went.

Hamish Grundy said: "The atmosphere was brilliant. That's why we're doing it.

Jack Arnall added: "We're raising a lot of money as well, which is worth it.

"The charities we've chosen are We Are Farming Minds, Cots For Tots and the Piped Piper Appeal.

"So two charities for children and one that helps farmers in their time of need."

The event was the latest in a series of tractor runs that have taken place in the county in the lead-up to Christmas.

Last week, the same organisers held an event in Ledbury, while there was also an event in nearby Trumpet last Saturday (December 16).

We Are Farming Minds also held a tractor run around the outskirts of Hereford earlier this month.
