SIR Elton John has posted a message to former Hereford student Olly Alexander on social media, congratulating him on being chosen as the UK's Eurovision entry.

On Saturday, December 16, pop star Olly Alexander, who went to Hereford Sixth Form College and Hereford College of Arts, announced that he would be representing the UK in Eurovision next year. He made the announcement as a guest on Strictly Come Dancing.

Sir Elton posted a picture of him with the Years and Years singer on Facebook saying he'd be "cheering Olly Alexander on".

He added: "Look forward to seeing you fly the flag for the UK and bring your incredible talent to the song contest."

Olly Alexander has previously teamed up with Sir Elton to record and perform a cover of the Pet Shop Boys' song It's A Sin. It was released at the same time as the hit TV show of the same name, which  Olly Alexander starred in.

Olly Alexander is the former frontman of the group Years and Years and is already a popular artist in his own right.
