A HEREFORDSHIRE pub has received national praise in the lead-up to the festive season.

The Cottage of Content in Carey has been named among 25 of the UK’s most magical Christmas getaways by the Times.

The list consists of a variety of hotels and B and Bs that offer up good food and a festive atmosphere as well as easy access to hikes and Christmas markets.

The cottage of content ranks sixth and is praised for its hearty meals, cosy bar and ‘fairytale’ appearance.

The fact that it is situated so close to Ross-on-Wye is also seen as a plus by the Times. The town’s Christmas fair, gift shops, bookshops and the surrounding quiet country lanes were noted as being particularly appealing.

Owner Richard Moore said: “We’re very happy about it, quite surprised.”

“We are one of the oldest black-and-white pubs in the area.

“We are in a nice little location, we’re very rural.

“Getting away from it all is literally what happens when you come down here.

“What’s not to like?”

The pub boasts five rooms with double occupancy starting at £75 a night.
