A DRUNK Mini driver has been sentenced after crashing into parked cars in Hereford.

William Collinson, of Garway Common, Garway, pleaded guilty a charge of drink driving when he appeared at Hereford Magistrates Court. 

Prosecuting solicitor, Mark Hambling said police were called to a road traffic collision in Eign Road at 7.15am on September 10 after a blue Mini collided with some parked vehicles.

A roadside breath test was carried out, which showed that the 19-year-old had 62 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. A further test at the police station returned 62mcg. The legal limit is 35mcg.

"He is a gentleman with no previous convictions," said Mr Hambling.

"No one was harmed, just minor damage to the vehicles."

In defence, Marilena Di Vitantonio said the plan was for Collinson to go back to his girlfriend's house, but there was no room in the taxi.

"He waited in his vehicle and stayed there until it was appropriate for him to drive," said Miss Di Vitantonio.

"He fell asleep in the vehicle. At 7.15am he drove the vehicle. He felt he was fine to drive."

Collinson was fined £406 and told to pay court costs of £135 and a victim surcharge of £162 respectively. He has also been disqualified from driving for 18 months, which will be reduced if he successfully carries out a a drink-drive rehabilitation course.
